The term Blog to some is just another new buzz word on the internet. But what is all the hype really about? A blog is simply a web log, or an online public diary/journal that is written for others to read.
People are social by nature, Facebook,Twitter, and other social media sites are great examples of our need to connect to others on a meaningful level. Sharing our ups, downs, passions, and angers in life publicly has become society's norm.
Blogs can be created for just about any reason--fun or professional.
In a writing class we teach writing as a process, often painstakingly long and tedious. But writing can be fun and fulfilling especially when the writer can express themselves in a personal and meaningful way.
Blogging makes us stop and consider writing as something more than a process, instead we can consider writing as a public act in our social media landscape. Blogging encourages us to rethink our definition of writing as a worthy activity and a social act instead of merely the internal workings of the mind. Most will agree that communication is key in our society, and writing in these new social ways simply allow us to engage collaboratively.
So the answer to “Why Blog?” is “Why Not?”
